LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles native Paul Haddad was obsessed with freeways long before he learned how to drive on them.

“I would (stare at a map) and look forward to a new freeway opening like a new ride at Disneyland,” Haddad said.

The author and screenwriter recently published a book that he said is the only definitive and comprehensive history of Los Angeles’ freeways, including some which were never built — like the “Beverly Hills Freeway.”
