DEARBORN, Mi. — Ford Motor Company issues a pair of safety recalls involving vehicles built at the Kentucky Ford Plant.

What You Need To Know

  • Ford issues pair of safety recalls

  • Vehicles were built at the Kentucky Truck Plant

  • Owners should contact the dealership to schedule repairs

  • Affects Lincoln Navigators and Ford Expeditions

The first recall involves the 2020 Ford Expedition and the 2020 Lincoln Navigator. Both vehicles are equipped with Pre-Collision Assist features that aren't working; they include Forward Collision Warning, Dynamic Brake Support, and Automatic Emergency Braking. The error prevents the vehicle from letting the driver know the equipment isn't working. A defective Pre-Collision Assist feature could fail to detect or reduce the risk of a head-on collision.

This condition affects the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigators equipped with the standard camera-only Pre-Collision Assist system.

All of the affected vehicles were made at the Kentucky Truck Plant and include:

  • 2020 Ford Expedition vehicles built April 16, 2019, to March 20, 2020
  • 2020 Lincoln Navigator vehicles built July 15, 2019, to March 19, 2020

Ford is not aware of any incidents or accidents related to this malfunction.

If you own one of these cars, contact your dealership. Dealers will reprogram the body control module, antilock braking system, instrument panel cluster, and headlamp control modules with the appropriate software calibration. This reprogramming will also require a tire pressure monitor system reset. The Ford reference number for this recall is 20S20.

The second recall involves 2019-2020 Ford Mustangs and 2019 Ford Expeditions. Only the Expeditions were built at the Kentucky Truck Plant.

The "transmission not in park" warning light and sound are only active for three seconds when the transmission is not in park, the ignition is off, and the driver's door is closed. The chime should last 10 seconds and the transmission not in park warning should stay up for 30 minutes when the driver's door is closed.

The light and warning message only being up for a short period of time could result in a driver leaving the car when it's not in park and the car could move on its own, increasing the risk of injury or a crash.

Like the other safety recall notice, Ford isn't aware of any incidents or accidents related to this malfunction.

The affected vehicles are:

  • 2019-20 Ford Mustang vehicles built at Flat Rock, Michigan Assembly Plant April 26 to October 10, 2019
  • 2019 Ford Expedition vehicles built at Kentucky Truck plant October 16, 2018, to October 13, 2019

Once again, owners should contact their dealerships who will reprogram the instrument panel cluster. The Ford reference number for this recall is 20S21.
