“It’s almost becoming the perfect storm of factors,” said Dr. Lynne Saddler, district director for Northern Kentucky Health Department.

She said the Northern Kentucky counties of Boone, Kenton, Campbell, and Grant, which are part of their health district, are showing the accelerated spread of COVID-19 cases and the cause behind the spike isn’t just one factor, rather its numerous factors.

“Some of it you hear from family and friends talking about their fatigue of dealing with covid every day, having to worry about social distancing, and having the mask and wearing the mask, all of those different things that go into what we’ve been needing to do for over 6 months now,” Saddler said.

She said the region has already undergone two waves of COVID-19 cases in spring and summer, but this time around it’s harder to pinpoint just one cause.

Saddler adds it could be due to students returning to school, sports activities, or the cold weather contributing to the rapid increase in cases.

“We also know that as time has gone on, more people are going back to work, physically in the workplace, and so having to make sure that those same precautions are being taken in the workplace as you’re taking when you’re out and about day after day is really important,” Saddler said.

Saddler said there are actions people can take to help slow down the spread, something you may have already heard, wash hands, wear a mask, and practice social distancing.

The Northern Kentucky Health Department director also urges to avoid crowded places, keep gatherings small, and a flu shot.
