LOUISVILLE, Ky. — It's now confirmed: Topgolf is coming to Louisville. Steve Porter, the attorney who represented the group of Hurstbourne residents opposed to the development, confirmed his clients did not ask the Supreme Court to review the case.
Back in December, the Kentucky Court of Appeals affirmed a lower court ruling by a Jefferson Circuit Court judge that favored a deal by the Louisville Metro Council and the Louisville Planning Commission to approve the project in 2018.
Topgolf released the following statement:
“We are pleased with the recent developments regarding the further confirmation by the court system of our previously obtained project governmental approvals and our ability to bring the Topgolf experience to Louisville.”
The Topgolf project was approved by the planning commission and Metro Council after hours of public hearings that brought out supporters and opponents. Concerns were raised about noise, traffic, lighting, the size of the complex, and hours of operation during those hearings.
Topgolf representatives in a statement said,
“As a company built on fun, community and inclusivity, we are looking forward to partnering with city officials and Oxmoor Center to bring a safe and entertaining experience to all.”
Individuals who went through the court process said they weren’t opposed to Topgolf coming to Louisville, they just wanted the facility built away from residential neighborhoods.
Sarah Davasher-Wisdom, the CEO of Greater Louisville Inc, said that attracting companies like Topgolf spurs on economic growth and development in Louisville.
“The more attractions that we have, the more likely additional growth will occur. The more attractions we have, the more work force will want to be here. The more companies we have, the more of the need to recruit talent to move to our area and develop talent that’s already here," Davasher-Wisdom said.
Topgolf representatives say that development timelines are being updated and finalized. Topgolf is slated to be built at the former Sears building at the Oxmoor Center.
