LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The largest mass vaccination site in the state opens Monday morning at Cardinal Stadium. UofL Health, which runs the site, said the goal is to get as many Kentuckians vaccinated as soon as possible.

What You Need To Know

  • The drive-thru mass vaccination site at Cardinal Stadium opens Monday at 9 a.m.

  • Any Kentuckian 16+ is eligible

  • The site can accommodate 4,000 vaccinations per day

  • Appointments are still available, but drive-ups and walk-ups are also an option

“We have appointments and we want people to sign up. We want to get over any hesitancy people have to get out and get the vaccine. We know it works. Let’s get out and get vaccinated," said Dr. Hugh Shoff, associate chief medical officer at UofL Health.

Shoff said he would like to see a full schedule for the next few weeks. With the dose availability and large space, the Cardinal Stadium site is the largest mass vaccination effort in the state. During a soft opening Friday, the 28-lane site was getting people in and out for vaccinations in under 30 minutes. That is possible in part thanks to the work of hundreds of volunteers.

“I got into medicine because I want to help people and my city. I grew up here, so I love it here. It’s cool to be apart of this and join the cause,” said Victoria Hammond, a UofL medical student who is volunteering at the site.

Americorps and the Kentucky National Guard also sent members to assist with the effort. Those volunteers underwent training last week to make sure Monday goes off without a hitch.

The Cardinal Stadium mass vaccination site officially opens at 9 a.m. Monday. UofL Health can accommodate 4,000 vaccinations per day there. Around 3,500 people are already registered for an appointment Monday. That means there are about 500 openings for anyone who would like to get a COVID-19 vaccine on the first day of this effort. UofL Health is taking drive-ups and walk-ups for people without appointments as well. They encourage everyone eligible to come out.

You can book an appointment on UofL Health's website or by calling 502-681-1435.
