LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Protesters who are in downtown Louisville Saturda will now get the chance to also get tested for the coronavirus. 

Mayor Greg Fischer (D) announced Bluewater Diagnostic Laboratories will provide the free, walk-up testing Saturday and Sunday

Testing will take place in the parking lot directly behind City Hall. The lot is bordered by 6th Street, Congress Alley, and 7th and Market Streets.

Testing will take place from 11 am until 3 pm each day and is open to anyone 6 months or older; they do not have to be a Jefferson County resident.

“I want to thank the peaceful protesters who’ve been making their voices heard, but remind everyone that we are still in a health pandemic,” said the Mayor. “Many protesters are wearing masks, which is great, but we understand that social distancing is difficult in a large protest. So, we wanted to make it easier for protesters to get tested and take the necessary steps to protect themselves and others.” 

Proof of ID is suggested but not required, but if you or someone you know is getting tested, you must provide some form of contact information. Proof of health insurance is not required but will be accepted. You will find out your results in 24-48 hours at the Blue Water online portal. If you test positive, you will be contacted by a healthcare provider. 

Louisville Metro Police Chief Rob Schroeder announced in addition to the current first-responder testing, LMPD is working with Louisville Metro Public Health and Wellness (LMPHW) to provide additional testing to LMPD members and their families. 

“We understand it’s difficult to practice proper social distancing in large gatherings. Getting a test will help guard you and your loved ones’ health and will help us contain the spread of COVID-19,” said Dr. Sarah Moyer, director of Louisville Metro Public Health and Wellness and the city’s chief health strategist.
