According to Moyer, there is a significant downtrend in COVID-19 cases. The city recently recorded the lowest weekly case count since October at 2,130 cases.

Moyer noted that vaccination rates are slightly lower, largely due to the weather, at the LouVax mass vaccination center at Broadbent. But she anticipates a quick rebound with improving weather.

"We will probably be off by a few days for the closure yesterday and today, depending on what happens with the weather the rest of the week," she said. "We plan to extend hours and catch up a little on Saturday this week. We expect to be on track with the timeline again next week."

The mayor stated that the public should not be alarmed about disruptions resulting from the winter weather.

"Don't worry. You are going to be okay," he said. "The shots and dosages are reserved for you, whether on your first dose or for your second dose."

Moyer also described the progress of the vaccine rollout.

"13,000 people got their first dose last week, and 12,600 received a second dose. Numbers are slightly lower due to the weather, and we do expect this trend to continue this week, but then after that, recover and give as many vaccines as we receive here in Jefferson County.”

Those who had an appointment at Broadbent Arena for vaccination will be contacted by coordinators, who will email to reschedule.

And everyone who has an appointment for vaccination at a hospital or clinic should check to confirm that it has not been rescheduled.
