Kentucky's next gubernatorial election will take place on Nov. 7, 2023. So far, only one Republican has declared a run for governor. In July, State Auditor Mike Harmon announced his campaign for the seat.

While Harmon is the only official candidate, several other Kentucky Republicans have expressed an interest in running. Earlier this year, Republican state Sen. Max Wise, who represents Campbellsville, said he's strongly considering a bid for governor. The state's Commissioner of Agriculture Ryan Quarles said he's also considering entering the Republican primary.

Beshear has served as the governor of Kentucky since 2019 after defeating former Republican Gov. Matt Bevin.
