WISCONSIN (SPECTRUM NEWS)— Carroll University in Waukesha County is surpassing a big goal this month.

They are collecting donations for Feeding America, and were pleasantly surprised with the outcome.

It’s been 11 years in the making, Carroll University teams up with Feeding America every April to collect food and monetary donations for those in need.

But this year, they weren’t sure how much they would get due to the current circumstances.

“In the last ten dyers we have raised 376,000 meals in the last ten years and now in this one year alone we have raised over 186,000. So half of what we have done in the past ten years we have done in the first half of this month,” Carroll University Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement, Zachary Staszewski said.

The Carroll community has surpassed their original goal of around 60,000 meals and tripled it before the end of the month.

“It’s so wonderful to see because going into the spring with all the closures and distancing and people being furloughed and a lot of concern about what was happening. People who wanted to give back were able to,” Staszewski said.

Feeding America says they are seeing an increase in hunger and food scarcity at around 70 percent, so the need is there.

“It was a very nice way for people to make an impact when they see the need at its most substantial it’s been in recent history,”Staszewski said.

Meanwhile, the month isn’t over yet, so they expect to continue to exceed their expectations in this upcoming week.
