WAUKESHA, Wis. — As the pandemic rages on, more nurses are needed on the frontlines now more than ever. Carroll University is hoping to get more nurses into the workforce by offering a new two-year degree. 

Carroll University’s Chair of Nursing, Terri Kaul, says they are looking for diverse applicants as the program is aiming to give opportunities to more bilingual students, as well as those from latino, black or Hmong backgrounds. Kaul says their focus on diversity will be critical to patient care outcomes. 

Kaul says, "I think having people that look like them, to care for them, be able to speak their language really helps with that understanding of the health needs that they have and how to care for them.”

The new fast-track nursing degree will begin this upcoming fall and will be mostly based at the Walter Sava center near Milwaukee’s Southside. Students will occasionally make trips to Carroll University main campus in Waukesha.
