Maine set another set grim record on Monday as the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported 261 hospitalizations -- an increase over the 249 reported over the weekend.

This is the third straight CDC report to mark an all-time high in pandemic-related hospitalizations, after 248 were reported Friday and then 249 reported on Sunday. Before Friday, the previous high of 235 was set on Sept. 25 of this year.

Of those 261 currently in the hospital, 72 are in critical care and 35 are on ventilators.

Maine reported 798 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, and another 10 people have died of the disease. There have been 1,230 COVID-related deaths in Maine since March of 2020, up 10 from the 1,220 reported on Thursday.

The most recent victims included five men and five women. According to the data, three were in their 60s, three in their 70s and five aged 80 or older. The data shows seven victims were from Cumberland County, and one each was from Aroostook, Somerset and Lincoln counties.

According to the Maine CDC, the total number of cumulative cases statewide as of Monday morning stands at 111,144, an increase over the 110,346 reported on Thursday. Of the current case total, state health officials classified 79,354 as confirmed cases, with 31,790 listed as probable.”
