Several veterans who know what it's like to deal with a setback in life, lifted the spirits of some young patients at a Manhattan hospital Wednesday.

Members of the Wounded Warriors Amputee Softball Team met with children and young adults at the Hospital for Special Surgery. The players offered words of encouragement to patients like Christopher Schrieks. Back surgery halted his plan to join the army, but only for now.

"Me trying to be in the military, give me a boost of confidence. there's no limit on where I can be. I can push through the struggles to be in the army like them," said Schrieks.

The veterans visit the hospital every year. They play against able body teams throughout the country.

Their next game is this weekend on Long Island.
