IN FOCUS — The COVID-19 pandemic has caused domestic violence cases to increase.

According to Carmen Pitre, of Milwaukee's Sojourner Family Peace Center, both deadly and non-fatal cases of domestic violence are up in the last year-and-a-half.

Pitre said COVID, which forced many in society into more isolated work and/or living conditions, increased the chances of victims spending more time at home near abusive partners.

She added many of the problems first spotted by Sojourner in 2020 still persist into 2021.
