Wisconsin Women in Government, a bipartisan, nonprofit organization, was founded in 1987.

Amanda Graham, the organization's President, said it serves as a networking and support system for women working in public sector careers.

Graham said WWIG provides scholarship opportunities to students in public universities, private universities, and technical colleges.

She said the scholarships are an important part of the organization's mission.

But Graham added the support and mentorship is aspect is just as critical.

While numbers from a recent Wisconsin Policy Forum report on women in government spotlighted a lack of females in elected positions, Graham noted staff positions can be equally important to shaping public policy. Graham herself works in a State Senate office.
