DELAVAN, Wis. — The Delavan-Darien School District has in recent years boasted one of the highest percentages of Hispanic students in Wisconsin.

Irma Gutierrez Nixon, the district’s dual language coordinator, said its dual language program begins at a young age, with children in 4K.

She said the district also offers a robust ESL (English as a Second Language) program.

Gutierrez Nixon said the growing number of Hispanics not only within the district, but within the Delavan and Darien communities as a whole, has led to a lot of camaraderie, understanding and acceptance in people of different backgrounds.
