MADISON, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS) – The protests happening across the country in response to the death of George Floyd have drawn reactions from community organizations everywhere.

In a statement, Ruben L. Anthony Jr., president of the Urban League of Greater Madison called the recent unrest "explosive" and blamed it on a history of violations of black bodies and a lack of accountability as an acceptable part of policing culture and society.

Anthony Jr. encouraged others to stop blaming the victim in unjust police interactions and demand that perpetrators be prosecuted. He added, "Justice is a natural principal linked to the moral fiber of our existence. If I am robbed of my justice today, you may be robbed of yours tomorrow. We must stand in solidarity against blatant acts of injustice."

Anthony Jr. continued with calls to public officials and law enforcement leaders to dismantle racist systems, and work on institutional changes in policies, procedures, culture, and mindsets.
