NARAL Pro-Choice America on Thursday will endorse Democratic House candidate Allison Fine in the race to replace Rep. Nita Lowey.

Fine is also a former chairwoman of NARAL Pro-Choice America Foundation's board.

“Allison Fine is a tireless advocate for reproductive freedom and understands deeply what’s at stake for women and families with reproductive freedom under full-blown attack," said the group's president, Ilyse Hogue. "Allison is the kind of champion we need fighting for us in Congress and working to ensure that women can make critical decisions about pregnancy without interference from politicians. NARAL is proud to endorse her in this race.”

Fine, an author and non-profit founder, is among the crowded field of Democrats vying for the suburban New York City House district that Lowey has led for more than 30 years.

In a statement, Fine said the issues surrounding abortion rights are especially key given Republican control of the White House.

“I am an unapologetic feminist and immediate past chair of the national board of NARAL Pro-Choice America, who has spent years fighting to make reproductive freedom a reality for all women," Fine said. "Today, I am so proud to receive the endorsement of NARAL: Pro Choice America for my campaign for Congress. Women won't ever truly be seen or treated as equals until our health choices are safe and respected."
