LEXINGTON, Ky. — The back-to-school preparation continues for families in Kentucky. But for one Lexington family, a retail store offered a kind gesture during their shopping experience.

Jennifer Wolsing and her son Xavier were doing their school supply shopping trip in Lexington in early August. The duo were playing a game they do every year, guessing how much their total bill would be.

That's when the manager at Walmart in Lexington, Allen Dixon, surprised them by paying for their cart full of school supplies. 

"Xavier, I think it's gonna be free," said Allen Dixon, manager at Walmart.

"Free?" Xavier said.

"I think it's free," Dixon said.

Xavier was gearing up to return to in-person learning at Fayette County Public Schools when it happened and Jennifer, a single mother, said she appreciates the kind gesture.

"It was unbelievable. I am incredibly grateful. I swear I would love to have that manager around next year. I thought it was an incredibly generous and kind thing for him to do and it really made my day," Wolsing said.

It all took place at the Walmart on Nicholasville Road when the family found out the Spectrum News 1 team was going to film a back-to-school story. That's when manager Allen Dixon decided he wanted the store to pay for the Wolsing's supplies.
