"I wanted to make sure that I have a fresh start, and with going in someplace new. You definitely want to make sure that you're protected," said Stallydia Mucker, who received a COVID-19 booster shot.

She starts Monday with a new job.

"So I need to make sure that I’m not only protecting myself, but I want to protect my children as well," Mucker said.

She’s one of the more than three dozen people taking part in a vaccine drive at her church.

"Because I have older people that I do visit — aunties and things like that — and I’m around a lot of older people as well, and I don't want to carry anything to anyone. As well as I don't want to be affected myself. I can't afford to get sick," Mucker said.

The vaccine drive offered Pfizer doses.

"We've had a great partnership in the spring. And so the need is still there, so we came together," said health official Kim Wilson.

Wilson said they’re offering first and second doses and especially administering the booster shots the entire month of October.

"Everybody just wants to be out of this pandemic, I think when we were all here in the spring and we're doing the vaccine clinics, we thought that would be it, we will be done. But here it is, the fall, and the need is still there. So it's very important that people get vaccinated so we can get through this pandemic finally," Wilson said.

So people like Mucker can continue being protected even on their first day in a new job.

"Some diseases, if you can prevent, prevent it," Mucker said. "Not only will you help yourself, but you'll help other family members that only seems right, that's the actual Christian thing to do. Your fellow man, ain't that what Jesus would do?"

UofL Health said they administered 40 doses and will continue offering clinics every Sunday this month. As of Friday, 60% of the total state population is vaccinated.
