ORLANDO, Fla. — Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, the indoor coaster coming to Epcot, will open to the public next summer.

What You Need To Know

The updated opening timeline was shared by Disney Parks chairman Josh D’Amaro on Saturday during Destination D23, the weeklong fan event at Disney World.

While Disney has previously said that the coaster will open next year, this is the first time it’s given a specific seasonal timeline.

During the presentation, D’Amaro also revealed that Glenn Close, who played Nova Prime in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” film, will reprise her role for the attraction.

Cosmic Rewind will be set in the new World of Xander pavilion, where visitors can learn about Xandar, its people and the planet’s futuristic technology. They will get to see this showcase in the Xandar Gallery. New renderings of the gallery were shared Saturday.

The coaster is being called a “storytelling coaster” and features a new ride system that allows the ride vehicles to rotate 360 degrees, directing riders to action along the track.

Not only will Cosmic Rewind be one of the longest enclosed coasters in the world, but it will also mark a first for Disney. It will the company’s first coaster to feature a reverse launch.

Outside the Cosmic Rewind building, there will be a full-size version of a Starblaster, a Xandarian ship.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is part of the major transformation project at Epcot.

The project also includes a revamped park entrance, new restaurants, new attractions and new experiences.
