ORLANDO, Fla. — Disney World, as part of its 50th anniversary celebration, is adding a new nighttime spectacular at Magic Kingdom.

What You Need To Know

  • The new Magic Kingdom nighttime spectacular officially debuts Friday

  • "Disney Enchantment" is part of Disney World's 50th anniversary celebration

  • It will feature fireworks, lasers and projections on Main Street U.S.A. buildings

  • The idea is to put visitors in the middle of the show, Disney officials say

“Disney Enchantment,” officially set to debut Oct. 1, will feature fireworks, projections on Cinderella Castle and a new original song titled, “You Are the Magic.”

For the team behind the show, “Disney Enchantment” represents the next chapter in Disney’s long history of nighttime spectaculars. It’s all about enhancing those familiar elements and creating something new.

“The lighting has been enhanced, the audio has been enhanced, the score, the fireworks, the projections, the lasers,” said Clint Clarke with Disney Live Entertainment. “So there’s so many things coming to life to tell the story.”

An example of those enhancements can been seen in the projections, which will now extend beyond Cinderella Castle to Main Street, U.S.A., putting visitors in the middle of the action.

“For so long, it was all about the castle. We kept everything up front,” Clarke said. “Now, we’re giving it to the whole audience down Main Street, U.S.A. You’re going to get something special no matter where you stand.”

There will also be Easter eggs in the projections that visitors should look out for. As for the fireworks, there will also be a few surprises.

“Just like the projections, there are things that we’ve hidden in there that you are going to want to see the show more than once to see as well,” said Tess Santore Bland, with Disney Live Entertainment.

As for the Disney characters that will be featured in the show, visitors will see moments from Disney animated films and Pixar films such as “Aladdin,” “The Princess and the Frog,” “Tangled,” “Moana” and “Onward.”

Actor Angela Bassett (“Black Panther”) will serve as the narrator of the show, Disney revealed Thursday. And to cap things off, Tinker Bell will take flight over Magic Kingdom, spreading pixie dust over the park.

Disney live-streamed “Disney Enchantment” Thursday night.

The arrival of “Disney Enchantment” also coincides with the debut of another new nighttime spectacular — “Harmonious” at Epcot.

Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration will last 18 months.
