ORLANDO, Fla. — SeaWorld Orlando’s next attraction, Pipeline: The Surf Coaster, is set to debut in the spring and construction is certainly coming along.

What You Need To Know

  • SeaWorld Orlando's new Pipeline coaster is set to open in the spring

  • Construction is progressing with many of the turns complete

  • The coaster will be a surf coaster and riders will be standing instead of sitting

In September, construction had gone vertical, with the first set of structures visible over the construction walls.

In the months since, most of the coaster track has been installed at the construction site. And many of the turns are complete.

Pipeline, which is manufactured by Swiss coaster design firm Bolliger & Mabillard, will reach speeds of up to 60 mph. It will feature twists and turns, including a wave curl inversion.

Unlike on most coasters, riders will be standing on Pipeline. The ride vehicle, unveiled last month at IAAPA Expo, is designed to look like an oversized surfboard. A harness keeping riders will move vertically to make them feel as if they are actually surfing the waves.

Park visitors can get a closer look at the surfboard vehicle, which has been placed near the entrance temporarily.

Pipeline will become SeaWorld’s seventh coaster, joining a lineup that includes Ice Breaker, Mako and Manta.
