The official opening date was revealed after the company shared a series of teasers on its social media account.

Inspired by the TRON films, the ride will give visitors the chance to hop on a light cycle and enter the Grid for themselves. TRON Lightcycle Run picks up after the events of the 2010 film “TRON: Legacy,” where Kevin Flynn’s son, Sam Flynn, has opened a second gateway into the digital realm.

The attraction will be similar to TRON: Lightcycle Power Run, which opened at Shanghai Disney in 2016. Riders, as Team Blue, will race against the Grid’s sinister Programs, which will be represented as Team Orange.

TRON Lightcycle Run was first announced for Magic Kingdom five years ago at D23 Expo 2017. The ride, which has been under construction in the Tomorrowland section of the park since 2018, was expected to open in time for Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration.

It will be one of the fastest coasters at any Disney theme park, according to the company. Disney recently added one of the longest indoor roller coasters to its lineup — Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT.

Disney said that there will be preview opportunities for cast members as well as guests, including annual passholders and eligible DVC members.
