Kevin Torres, 41, appeared in front of a judge Thursday afternoon on a total of 18 charges, including three counts of murder, in connection with the deaths of Justin Atkinson, 43, his son 16-year-old Calvin Atkinson, and Anthony "Bubby" Mull, 25, authorities said.
Other charges included home invasion with a firearm, burglary, kidnapping, false imprisonment, aggravated assault, aggravated child abuse, abuse of a dead human body and tampering with evidence.
In his first court appearance, a judge set a $2,500 bond on a grand theft auto charge and a $2,500 bond on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge. However, the denial of bond on the most serious charges will keep him in the Osceola County Jail.
Sheriff Marcos Lopez said Torres has had multiple run-ins with the law.
Records indicate Torres' has served time in Florida.
The sheriff said the 41-year-old has been arrested more than 40 times and has a history of mental health issues, but believes these murders were planned.
On Wednesday night, loved ones held a vigil near the Kissimmee apartment complex where the killings happened.
Brittany Steele, the mother of Mull's 3-year-old daughter, said she spoke to him just hours before.
Steele described him as a good friend and father to little Madison, who was looking forward to teaching his daughter to one day learn how to ride a bike.
