A woman struck by a golf cart while taking a walk in The Villages last month has died, troopers said.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, 70-year-old Barbara Bess Ruhe was driving a 2011 golf cart at 11:20 a.m. Jan. 16 on the southbound lane of Sunset Pointe Boulevard, south of Hartsville Trail, in the marked golf cart lane.

Ruhe was following another golf cart, investigators say. As that vehicle passed Joan Marie Colonna, who was walking in the golf cart lane, Ruhe did not see Colonna and struck her, troopers said.

The 68-year-old Colonna was taken to the Ocala Regional Medical Center, where she died Monday, the FHP said.

Both women are from The Villages. Troopers said alcohol did not play a part in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
