ORLANDO, Fla.Amway Center has hosted its first events since the coronavirus pandemic began — and the tenant has signed a contract for a residency.

WWE recently hosted its big summer pay-per-view show, SummerSlam, at the downtown Orlando arena, typically home to the NBA's Orlando Magic — who were playing across town in the NBA playoffs at Disney World's ESPN Wide World of Sports.

But Spectrum News 13 has confirmed that WWE is also leasing out the venue for a residency to host other events and live TV tapings. A city of Orlando spokesperson says the Amway Center "has a use agreement through October 30 for events without fans" and referred all other questions to the WWE.

WWE had been running its programing from its Performance Center in Orlando since the pandemic began in March. It also dealt with a coronavirus outbreak in June at the facility.

Load-in began at the Amway Center on Friday, August 14, 2020 for a setup that includes LED boards that display virtual fans, similar to the NBA and Major League Soccer bubbles at ESPN Wide World of Sports.
