KISSIMMEE, Fla. — For the first time in almost a year, the Osceola Council on Aging got together to celebrate Three Kings’ Day in Kissimmee.

What You Need To Know

  • Osceola Council on Aging held a Three Kings Day celebration

  • The socially-distanced event featured food, gifts

  • The pandemic has affected how many meals have been delivered to seniors

Going to the Osceola Council on Aging to eat or play dominoes is no longer possible for Mary Davila and Antonio Vega due to the pandemic. But Wednesday afternoon they got to experience a drive-through celebration for Three Kings’ Day.

During a socially distanced event, the council had food to-go, gave out gifts, and raffled a brand new Subaru.

“It’s wonderful for us seniors,” Davila said. “A place to come and for and participate. It’s wonderful.”

Wendy Ford, president for the Osceola Council on Aging, said funding capabilities for the Council have been overwhelmingly affected. The Council was delivering 10,000 Meals on Wheels to seniors’ homes prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, now they’re doing about 35,000 meals.

“A daily delivery and during COVID … and we lost a lot of our volunteers because they were seniors, we didn't want them out for the same reason anybody wanted seniors out,” Ford said.

The Osceola Council on Aging plans to reopen their in-person gatherings next month for a pilot run in St. Cloud.
