BRANDON, Fla. — At the request of the state of Florida, residents whose property was damaged during Hurricane Ian have additional time to apply for federal disaster assistance.

FEMA has extended the application deadline to Jan. 12, 2023, for residents in Brevard, Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Flagler, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Highlands, Hillsborough, Lake, Lee, Manatee, Monroe, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Palm Beach, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Putnam, Sarasota, Seminole, St. Johns and Volusia counties.
Florida has FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers in most of the areas in the state affected by Hurricane Ian. All the centers will be closed Thursday, Nov. 24-Sunday, Nov. 27 for the Thanksgiving weekend holiday.
It is not necessary to visit a Disaster Recovery Center to apply. Residents can go online to disasterassistance.gov, use the FEMA mobile app or call 800-621-3362. The line is open every day from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. ET. Help is available in most languages.

Individuals with insurance should file a claim for damage to their home, personal property and vehicles before applying for FEMA aid. FEMA cannot duplicate other sources of assistance an individual may have already received.
