Melbourne, Fla- The high school football playoffs are starting to wrap up, but there are plenty of central florida schools still in the hunt.  Eau Gallie are one of the surprises and are led by a strong offensive attack. The Commodore’s quarterback Cade Ross has complete control of this unit.

"He’s always understood the game because his dad was a Division II head coach for a long time. The success he is having its just not about him, it’s about our team," says Head Coach Chris Sands.

Ross proved it on the field in their playoff victrory against Cypress Lake on November 27th.  "Just played a good game, me and my receivers really connected. We had 5 touchdowns and 1 rushing," says Ross.  "The week before last he threw for 465 yards, which is insane numbers for a high schooler," says Sands.  "He is just putting the ball where it’s supposed to be."

What has helped him improve the last two years as the starting quarterback is the talent he faces during practice.  "Since day one, he’s had to go against arguably the best secondary in the state. Going against guys like TJ Jones, Jordan Blackmon, Dink Jackson and Jamari Nelson, those types of guys seeing them every single day in practice is key for a successful quarterback," says Coach Sands. "When I practice, I going against the best.  I know anyone we play in games they are not going to be better than the corners and DB’s we have here," says Ross.

This years success in the playoffs are new to Eau Gallie.  "We are making history here at EG, we haven’t won over one playoff game in all the years at Eau Gallie, we have the most playoff wins we ever had so for this year," says Ross. "The thing that is almost frustrating about this run we are having, obviously we are in some deep waters now, but no one realized what we’ve done when we first got here," says Coach Sands.  "We were able to take a that was kind of a mid level program and make it to the playoffs in the first year. Last year we went 9-1 in the regular season and we lost in the first round to arguably one of the best teams in the state in Jesuit."

They hope to keep things going by playing for the state champioship on December 18th. "This year is reaping the benefits of our work," says Coach Sands. "Our goal is to win a state championship."
