ORLANDO, Fla. — Columbus Day is expected to be another gorgeous and quiet day for Central Florida. High pressure will remain in control, allowing for lots of sunshine and no rain.

Mostly clear skies will continue through the overnight hours with comfortable temperatures dropping into the mid to upper 60s. Monday will be mostly sunny again with highs in the upper 80s inland, and low to mid 80s on the coast.

We can expect similar conditions to stick around for Tuesday before changes move in on Wednesday. A weak front will drop in, allowing for a few showers and storms Wednesday and Thursday.

The end of our work week looks dry with slightly lower temperatures following the front. Highs will finish the week in the mid to low 80s.

If you're planning to celebrate Columbus Day at the beach, the weather will be mostly sunny with a couple of stray clouds in the sky. More sunshine means a higher ultraviolet index. Under 15 minutes to get yourself a burn.

Tropical Update

Melissa is continuing to weaken as it races east away from the United States. There are currently no direct threats to Florida, although swells from Melissa will cause life-threatening rip current threats and rough surfs along the east coast.

A tropical wave off of the coast of Africa is showing signs of organization and conditions are expected to remain conducive for tropical depression development over the next couple of days. The forecast is to move west-northwest toward the Cabo Verde Islands.

A large area of low pressure in the western Caribbean is expected to remain disorganized until it moves into the southern Bay of Campeche on Wednesday. This is where slight development is possible, although the chance is low.

Regardless of development, this system is expected to cause flash flooding in Central America due to heavy downpours.

The last tropical wave we’re watching is well out in the central Atlantic. This wave is very disorganized and conditions are only expected to be marginally conducive for development as the system moves west over the next few days.

Beach and Surf Conditions

Water temperatures will be in the low 80s, but a high rip current threat should make you think twice about getting in the water. Always swim within eyesight of the lifeguard and never swim alone. Small crafts are encouraged to use caution near the inlets.
