Some students at Roberts Wesleyan College are working on a food recovery program to to try to reduce the amount of food that's wasted on campus.

Members of the college's Ecology Club work with food service staff to collect and freeze any overproduced food in the dining hall each week — food that never made it to buffet.

The food is then delivered to the Asbury Dining & Caring Center in Rochester that feeds people in need.

"One time we even went to serve a meal there and we got to sit down and eat with people that we are actually giving the food too and it was nice to see that we are helping people in their lives," said student Kaysie Blersch. "We got to talk to them and find out there life stories. It was lovely."

So far the effort has recovered more than 3,000 pounds of food.
