ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A memorial service honored dozens of people in Monroe County who died from COVID-19.

The Faith in Action Network hosted the service Sunday for family members to say goodbye to their loved ones.

Monica Weis came to remember her brother, Bernie. He was in a nursing home when he passed away.

"It was their first case and the staff was devastated because they had tried to keep all their patients safe,” Weis said.

Irma lost her husband of 50 years in February. He died from COVID-19.

They spent their last weeks together separated while he was in the hospital.

This service gave her a chance to grieve with others going through similar situations.

"I need more goodbyes,” she said. “I don’t have many people around to talk to. I like getting together with others who have similar feelings.”

Names of family members were read off during the ceremony, followed by a prayer.
