ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The CDC reporting more than 75 million Americans are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19, however, there are reports of some vaccinated people still becoming infected with the virus.

The number is incredibly small — only 5,814 of those 75 million, according to the CDC.

URMC's Dr. Paul Graman says no vaccine is 100% effective, but in the rare case a vaccinated person contracts COVID-19, the illness will be less severe.

"Some of that concern may be understandable given some of the news lately about one of the vaccines but you have to take whatever those concerns are and weigh those against the risk of covid, and the risk of getting covid and ending up sick and in an icu and possibly dying, is much higher than the risk from any of these vaccines," said Dr. Graman, an infectious disease physician.

URMC is taking part in a national study conducted by the CDC to research vaccinated people who get COVID-19. That study is still in the planning phase. That study is still in the planning phase.
