The Monroe County Department of Public Health has announced it will be holding four COVID-19 vaccination clinics for children ages 5-11 starting this weekend. However, hours after this weekend's appointments first appeared online, they were all booked up.

Those clinics are going on Saturday at Pittsford Plaza, the Mall at Greece Ridge and MCC's downtown Rochester campus.

The county says there are a limited number of walk-in appointments at the Edgerton R-Center on Sunday.

The drive-thru vaccination clinics planned in Ontario County are also listed as full.

Health officials say this isn't just an issue in the Rochester area. A pediatrician from Albany says he's trying hard to keep up with demand.

“I spent two hours this morning just answering phones with the front office staff because the phones have not stopped ringing,” said Dr. Michael Looney of Delmar Pediatrics. “I had parents with tears in their eyes that they were so glad they could vaccinate their kids. That’s the kind of response we’ve had from people.”

Some local pharmacies have limited appointments left. And UR Medicine and Rochester Regional will also help meet that demand at their pediatric offices.

The county says the clinics will continue until demand is met, but they need vaccinators to help keep the clinics going.
