ROCHESTER, N.Y. — With less than 30 days before the start of school, the Rochester City School District still has hundreds of job openings.

Events like the one held Saturday outside School No. 22 are ways the district is working to fill the positions.

"We can be embedded into the community, where the community is and ease of access to engage with people looking for work,” said Christopher Miller, chief of human capital with RCSD.

The district is looking to hire everything from teachers and substitutes to para-professionals and clerical staff.

They’ve been holding weekly recruitment events that Miller says are helping bring in new candidates.

“We’ve been working over the last month to aggressively recruit and hire for open positions,” Miller said. “We’ve hired several hundred positions since we started posting the need."

This Wednesday, the district is holding an on-the-spot hiring event. It’s taking place at the Mercantile on Main from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

"We’re recruiting teachers who work in surrounding suburbs and charter schools," Miller said. "They want to come to RCSD for better pay and benefits, better work hours and better support."
