ROCHESTER, N.Y. — New music director Andreas Delfs joined the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra Wednesday for a sneak peak of their season.

Delfs began with the RPO as a frequent guest conductor and is now its 13th music director.

He has made quite an impression in the classical music world for his artistic excellence and for his love for this orchestra.

Delfs says the RPO sounds great, considering it hasn't been together in a while.

"Considering this is the first time that this very huge large orchestra is coming back together for the first time on stage after 18 months, we did smaller things and chamber music and people were practicing,” Delfs said. “But this is really the first time after a long break, and I'm bowled over how good the orchestra sounds. [It] sounds like we just played our last big concert yesterday or last week. Like nothing has happened in-between and it makes me very happy."

The stage has been expanded so that the musicians will be spaced out a little bit more than normal for social distancing.

If you'd like to celebrate RPO’s new musical director, its new season, and the return of live and in-person music at Kodak Hall, tickets are available online at rpo.org, starting at $30.
