A man is dead after a shooting on Rochester's west side Saturday morning.

Police were called to a home on Sherwood Avenue, off Chili Avenue, just after 5 a.m.

They found 24-year-old Lavon Williams dead in the doorway of the multi-unit home. Another person was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Following the fatal shooting, one neighbor was on her way home from work Saturday morning when she saw her house blocked off with caution tape.

“I don’t know who got shot, but this is ridiculous and every time you come home you’ve got to find something going on or somebody got hurt or somebody is shooting up something,” said resident, Avis Matthews.

Her house has been shot at before. She says she has gone to the mayor’s office looking for help to clean up the neighborhood.

“The drugs and crime in all of these neighborhoods needs to stop. Everybody’s trying to hurt each other. I can’t even raise my grandson around here. It’s just got to stop,” added Matthews.

Police assured neighbors they do not need to be concerned, calling the shooting an isolated incident.

No one is in custody at this time.

This is the city's fourth homicide this year.
