A disease once eradicated in the United States has resurfaced in Western New York.

Monroe County health officials confirmed Thursday that a toddler has been diagnosed with the measles.

Officials say the child recently traveled with family to Ukraine, where there is currently an outbreak. The child was not vaccinated but all other members of the family were.

Following the child’s diagnosis, the rest of the family was quarantine to prevent an outbreak.

Health officials recommend checking Center for Disease Control Travel Notices prior to going abroad.

The measles, mumps and rubella vaccine is required for all children attending school. It’s recommended that child get their first dose between 12 and 15 months and a second dose between 4 and 6-years-old.

If you have the vaccine, you are considered immune.
