At Rochester Regional Health's ElderONE center in Newark, many folks are proving age doesn’t matter as much as mindset.

For Allen and Eudora Kanaley, it’s like a home away from home. The Kanaleys are regulars at PACE, or Program for All-inclusive Care for the Elderly. The program combines medical, physical and other care, while offering a slew of activities for seniors.

“Anything that we need is here,” Eudora said. “It's just nice to come over here and be with people."

Eudora is 84 and Allen is 82. The couple met in 1997 through a radio station dating program. Both are proving that despite preconceived notions, age really is just a number. They credit PACE for helping to keep them young.

“We have to count our blessings,” Eudora said.

They also appreciate the ability to stay independent.

“When they're around us, they can see it,” she said. “We're happy and we're well taken care of."

“Our goal here is to really bring all of those pieces that people are missing at an older age here to the center,” said Laura Ehle, recreation therapist at the center. “…So that all those needs can be met.”

Aging, for some, comes with a struggle to find purpose. The Kanaleys have a firm hold on theirs.

“This is all of our family here,” Allen said. “You may not call them by name, but they're all our family."
