T'ai Chi is meditation with motion. It combines movements and breathing to help with mental focus and relaxation. T'ai Chi is a gentle way to fight stress.

Brian Bruning has been doing T'ai Chi for more than 40 years. He says it's helped him reduce stress and is an immunity builder for him.

"I think it’s warded off quite a few illnesses that are genetically in my family," said Bruning. "If I can beat something that I am pre-destined to have, that’s a good thing. It is very positive."

The Rochester T’ai Chi Ch’uan Center has experienced an enrollment decline during the pandemic. The volunteers are encouraging people to give T'ai Chi a try.

Guy Prentice turned to T'ai Chi for some much-needed stress relief.

"I started T’ai Chi because I was working for Fortune 100 company that was driving me absolutely crazy, and I needed some sort of stress relief. I also found out it really improved my balance and my downhill skiing and virtually every other sport that I was involved in," said Prentice.

Retired psychologist and T'ai Chi instructor, Kathy Gill believes T’ai Chi is good for you no matter how old or young you are or what you do for a living.

"Not only did learning T'ai Chi help me with stress, but I taught it to combat veterans who in many cases found it very useful for relaxation," said Gill. "The accompaniment of the movements and the breathing really gives people relaxation strategies that they can use for their own health and well-being. “
