While many in Rochester continue to struggle to fulfill basic needs because of the pandemic, two local organizations spent their Sunday offering help.

Women Appropriating Visibility & Empowerment (WAVE) and Next Generation Men of Transition (NGMT) held a community clothing drive on Thurston Rd.

The public had the opportunity to grab any clothing or household items they needed for free.

It was organized by Javannah Davis and Brittan Hardgers.

"We were blown away at the outpouring of donations and people that really gave of themselves and helped us make this event what it is today," said Davis of WAVE.

"A lot of times with everything going on in the city of Rochester, people don't realize, especially the Black and brown community, that we have our own resources and this is one of those resources, being able to give back to our community. Yes, there is a Goodwill and yes there is a Salvation Army, but everything here today was free and donated," said Hardgers of NGMT.

Both Davis and Hardgers believe the clothing drive shows there are many that care in the Rochester area for those struggling to get by.

"Especially during the time of this pandemic and people being out of work, and people in need of certain things, so we just wanted to give back and the blessings that we have we wanted to share with the community at large," said Davis.
