ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The 35th Annual Empowering People's Independence Chocolate Ball will be a TV broadcast and virtual event this year. You're invited to enjoy some chocolate from home to support EPI and all it does to support people with epilepsy.

What You Need To Know

  • The Chocolate Ball is EPI's largest fundraiser

  • EPI provides personalized care, education and support solutions for people with developmental disabilities, epilepsy and brain injury

  • The CDC estimates that 215,200 people in NYS have active epilepsy which includes 26,600 children

Get Caked Bakery at the Village Gate in Rochester is once again part of EPI’s Chocolate Ball that highlights local talent through its chocolate cake competition to raise money for EPI. Owner Kelly Scott and her baking crew are mixing, baking and frosting all kinds of goodies.

“Even with such a hard year as it’s been, it’s just really nice to know that we are still able to do something so meaningful for other people," said Scott. "My stepson has cerebral palsy and epilepsy, and my granddaughter is also autistic, so they benefit from a lot of the services at EPI. It just makes us so happy to see the kids happy; that’s ultimately what it comes down to.“

Get Caked cupcakes will be among of the items in two chocolate packages available for purchase to enjoy at home. There’s a $50 Chocolate Ball Box or a $250 Chocolate Ball Decadence Package with champagne, whiskey from Iron Smoke, a lotus bowl from Encore, hot chocolate bombs from The Cake Place and other locally sourced products.

The Chocolate Ball chocolate package sale proceeds support EPI and all it does for people with epilepsy, including Camp EAGR, the only overnight camp for kids with epilepsy.
