ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester City School District says it’s using guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as a template as it prepares to get students back to the classroom this fall.

The plan includes the following criteria:

  • All students and staff must be masked while indoors, regardless of vaccination status
  • There will be increasing spacing in classrooms, cafeterias and other shared spaces
  • Other precautions like testing, ventilation, staying home when sick and contact tracing will also be taken

One important change this fall is that students will not have their temperatures checked once they get to school. Instead, parents are asked to screen their children for COVID symptoms each day and check their temperatures.

The district is planning to have all students return to class five days a week starting on Wednesday, September 8.

Only students who have applied for and been approved for a medical exemption will be able to receive remote instruction.

The district is holding a family forum on Zoom on August 21 from 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. You can register on the district’s website.
