ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The one-stop drop-off for residential recycling in Monroe County is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

In 2011, Monroe County teamed up with Waste Management to create the ecopark in response to demands for expanded community recycling.

To date, ecopark has taken in more than 5 million pounds of electronic waste, 9,000 tires, about 800 tons of scrap metal and 2,500 tons of household hazardous waste.

"This is a great way to work with the residents work with the business community its coming up with innovative approachs on how to recycle and save the environment, climate change and the other issues that come from this. But were all working together with our residents to instead keep it out of landfills, keep it out of the grounds, waterways. Instead, recycle reuse it make it productive again but do it in a way that doesn't pollute the environment."

Ecopark is open Wednesday from 1 to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 10 Avion Drive.

Some items accepted at the self-serve recycling stations are appliances, TVs, cleaners, paper, cardboard and more.
