Union support staff in the Rochester City School District rallied to save their jobs following the district’s proposed reductions in all departments due to state budgeting problems.

Unions representing school safety officers, custodians, and other support staff demanded the district reconsider at a rally Saturday.

"They were essential then, and they're essential now,” said Bente President Dan DiClemente, which was received with cheers at the rally.

Union leaders say more than 200 support staff jobs are at stake in Rochester city schools if the cuts go through.
