With so much uncertainty surrounding high school football in New York, one Livonia family is moving to Florida so their son can play football.

"It breaks our heart that we have to have this position that we've been forced into," said Andy Mayo while looking at his son's highlight reel.

Andy is not taking any chances.

He is bringing his family down to Florida so Brendan has a chance to play football his senior year.

"Unfortunately, I feel like he has been robbed of that by New York state. I don't really have any faith at all that they are going to be able to play, because the numbers are so low right now with respect to COVID. The only way really is for them to get worse," said Andy

However, it's not just about the love of the game.

Brendan is an offensive lineman who has received numerous honors while playing at Livonia, such as getting on the all New York state team, becoming a Section V all-star, and having the opportunity to play in the All American Bowl in Dallas in 2021.

He's also gotten interest from major college programs and even made unofficial visits to Columbia and Yale.

"One of the biggest things that all of this college coaches are telling me right now, make sure you put out a good senior film and if you don't have a season, you don't have a film to put out and that puts you at a big disadvantage," said Brendan.

Andy explains waiting for New York to announce when the season starts could mean that it might be too late for his son to get a scholarship, as there are less spots open at the college level this year.

"Some of them have taken gap years or they may have extra year of eligibility because of the pandemic, because many conferences has cancelled so there's only so many opportunities open per each football team," said Andy.

While playing for his future in Florida, Brendan says he will definitely miss what he is leaving behind.

"One of the biggest cons of going to play somewhere else. You lose your friends, your teammates and you don't know who is going to be there to support you," said Brendan.

The Mayo’s will leave for Florida next week.
