SAN ANTONIO -- A long-awaited Southside San Antonio park is finally welcoming visitors.

After icy weather conditions pushed back the opening date in January, celebrations for Confluence Park happened Saturday morning.

The park merges the San Antonio River and the San Pedro Creek systems. It's also a confluence of education and culture, which further enhances the visitor's experience.

Residents neighboring the park also get a special advantage.

"We made sure they have their own gates to it as well just to help them feel it is their park because it is the communities park and its right next to them,” said Kelley Phillips, of the San Antonio River Foundation.

Construction on the $13 million park project began in May 2016.
