SAN ANTONIO — It may not be the start of another Spurs season quite yet, but San Antonio's Spurs Jesus still has reason to celebrate.

He and his wife, Karsen, are expecting a baby, and the local celebrity and soon-to-be dad marked the occasion with a large baby shower at La Villita’s Arneson River Theatre downtown.

Spurs Jesus invited the community to come be part of a baby shower. He asked guests to bring diapers, baby food and baby clothes for the thousands of others in San Antonio who can't afford their own.

"Spurs Jesus has done so much for us. He raised money, he was the prince of the River Walk in 2016 so we definitely wanted to help out," Loren Reyes said.

There is no government assistance for diapers. Officials with the Texas Diaper Bank say one in three families in the U.S. can't afford them.

"Last year we actually served 32,000 individuals and distributed over 4.5 million diapers," Katherine Garcia with the Texas Diaper Bank said.

Donations went the Salvation Army, Texas Diaper Bank and the San Antonio Food bank. Spurs Jesus hopes the excitement will get people thinking of giving all year.

"What a better way to teach our unborn baby that is soon to come any day now about how to give back and make a difference in town," he said.

"I just feel so happy and we can't wait to tell our little nugget about this awesome day in its honor," Karsen said.
