TEXAS – The state of Texas continues to see a surge in COVID-19 cases, leaving the high-risk elderly population with minimal human contact. One senior care facility is looking to change that.

Hillside Medical Lodge in Central Texas posted to Facebook about its Wellness Around the World campaign earlier this week. As part of the initiative, 52 residents said they wanted to participate in connecting with pen pals from around the world.

Within two days, the lodge received overwhelming support. Dr. Pepper in Waco visited to donate product and staff answered hundreds of phone calls from people looking to help.

In an additional Facebook post, the facility urged people to avoid calling to keep lines open for health care providers and residents’ families. Any questions can be directed to the website email.
