NATIONAL — September 10 of each year marks World Suicide Prevention Day.
The International Association for Suicide Prevention established the day to raise awareness around the world that suicide can be prevented.
According to the World Health Organization, at least 800,000 people take their own lives each year.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention collected data in June that found 11 percent of Americans surveyed had considered suicide in the past 30 days. Most people who commit suicide are battling some form of depression.
